Welcome to the Schools Stand Up to Racism Project

Schools Stand Up 2 Racism is a three year research project currently taking place in secondary schools across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington, with the aim of understanding more about the challenges posed by racism in our secondary schools. You can find out more about the project background and aims in the Research section of this site. Details about how we’ve carried out the research can be found in the Methods section.

Schools Stand Up 2 Racism is a partnership between Cheshire, Halton and Warrington Race and Equality Centre (CHAWREC) and Manchester Metropolitan University (Cheshire) and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The project began in September 2010 and will be completed by December 2013. You can see more detail on our Timeline. Although the research is not yet complete, you can read about what we have discovered so far in the Findings section.

Once the research is complete we will be producing resources and training for school staff to help address the issues raised. In the meantime, we have provided links to Teaching and Staff Training resources that schools may find useful. There are also a number of Reports & Articles about similar research in other areas that provide context to the Schools Stand Up to Racism project.

We hope you find the website useful and interesting. If you have any comments, questions or feedback, please do get in touch.
